Fly lady would not be proud of me. I have it clearly written down in my weekly routine that I will blog every Sunday. {What happens?} I am too busy writing down my routines to actually do them. We had a wonderful evening on the beach. It was cold but we had dinner at this great seafood restaurant (catch 31). I had a blackened halibut, but they put brown sugar in the blackening spices with roasted root vegetables. Yum!! They had heaters on their beautiful patio that overlooked the ocean. We walked the shore, and then did our best to stretch dinner into an evening out. We even did coffee and desert to stay longer and soak in the ocean mist. I was thinking about what my friend Julie Hunt says about how she is reminded of Gods faithfulness when she is at the ocean. Every time we come back, the ocean is still there; steady, trustworthy. Just like God, always the same and so big! The waves are still crashing even as I write this post. Cool.
• I just spent a week in LaCrosse with the Snider Family. It was so great to be with family and not alone since Jeff won’t actually be home in Nashville until January. Wa-wa. Marie and I worked on making a scrapbook of Jacks first six months. It was really fun! Just like a good alcoholic, I couldn’t just do one scrapbook, oh, no. I had to do it in triplicate! I did a scrapbook for me, one for the Snider’s and one for the Kane’s. Moderation is for sissies. (he.he.) It was quite the project. I couldn’t have done it without Marie’s help. Also, we had lunch with Great Aunt Mary from Tomah while we were in town and did a Zumba class with the famous Helen Haley. Really fun!

Glad to be home for a few days. Next week we are off to spend thanksgiving with Jeff in Greenville, SC. Jack is becoming a very experienced traveler. He is really beginning to talk! We joke and say that he is going to grow up to be a politician with all this talking! He is eating baby food now and his favorite is green beans. He also can roll over really well.

New York 3/4

Well,

I haven't stayed to what I set for myself. BLOG EVERY SUNDAY! This was my goal. Err.. I got busy.

Jack and I went back to Nashville last weekend at the last minute. I didn't get back to NY until Monday night and I was totally tuckered out. Alas, no blog! Then Jeff's cousins came into town and we have been hangin' with them. With my online class I feel like I am constantly on the computer. But, like flylady would say, "I can do anything for 15 minutes." So, here I am.

Highlights

1. Body: the exhibit. This place was awesome. Real human bodies displayed. It was incredibly interesting, expecially since I just finished antaomy last semester.

2. Going back to Nashville was great. I had a weekend to reconnect with friends and not be by myself since Jeff had to go do a Kenny gig. I went to church, went to my community group, and got to connect with my AA girls at a book study. I saw my mom and dad. It was great. One highlight was spending the afternoon at my friend Julie's house (who is an excellent baker) where we made a bannana creme pie for my dad's birthday. It was so fun! THe pie turned out amazing!

3. Jeff's co-worker's wife Jennifer is finally here in NY. She has two kids (Evangilene, 3 and Cameron, 6mo). She has been in my shoes for the past two years. We have been having a lot of fun together in Central park. I am becoming sort of an expert on playgrounds.

4. Alas, Kenny did not give ANY bonuses this year and Jeff and I feel like the griswalds from Christmas vacation. It is a totally bummer. We were totally expecting a pretty big check. Boo. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. So we are buckeling down for a bit to adjust. I went to the grocery store and guess what? 3.29 for a head of lettuce!! Annie, I think I am beginning to understand how you feel. EK! If you can believe it, Whole Foods the the cheapest store to shop. So I got us some groceries and it's meals at home for a while. (not a bad thing)

Ok, well here are some pictures and I am going to try to blog on Sunday. (God help me)

Melissa

New York City 2

Hello All!

This week has been a good week!Where to start.

Monday:

I found Weight Watcher and if you can believe it, I lost 1.8 Pounds. What the heck? It must be all the walking. Crazy, because I seriously have been eating what I want, when I want, and how much I want. Ekk! I think I am on a food bender. It is just too good. Jack and I met up with Jeff for lunch and then just walked around the rest of the day. I went to a Middle Eastern Restaurant for dinner that had rave reviews and the owner was known to be a total rude jerk. We'll he wasn't that mean, and the food was just okay. My first let down on the ethnic cuisine. My class started today officially. My paper is going to be on: The paradoxes in the Communist Manifesto. @*? wish me luck. The paradoxes in Freedom and Responsibility was already taken.

Tuesday:

I went to the Peanut Butter Company in Greenwich Village. (This was the wonderful suggestion of my dear friend Julie H) It was incredible, seeing that I love PB! I had a cinnamon raisin sandwich. This included Cinnamon raisin peanut butter, vanilla cream cheese and apple slices. DELICIOUS! Then jack and I scoped out the neighborhood and some of the treasures that we found were; vintage clothing stores, a sassy rice pudding shop, handmade baby shirts (which I am going to try to do on my own), massage parlors, and a nice park. We sat in the park and I ate pudding. It was lovely. However, it is a little lonely. Jeff's co-worker''s wife and their two kids will be here next week and I hope to spend time with them during the days.
I went to an AA meeting and Jeff parented to finish the day.

Wednesday:

Date night! So. First I will say that we finally met Holly Hall who is the daughter of Michele hall from Grace. She is a student in NY at the Kings college. She does babysitting for extra money. What a sweetie! It was such a God thing that Michele was able to connect us with her daughter and her daughters friends for babysitting while we are here.
Well, I searched for a "fun" place to have dinner in NY and "Lucky Cheng's" came up in my research. It is a dinner theatre slash drag queen show. The reviews said It was really funny and a good time. So, I thought we could check it out. It sure isn't something you would find in Nashville. I THINK OUR EXPECTATIONS WERE TOO HIGH. Well, There was quite a bit of "audience participation." I had no idea. it was a long night that had Jeff in full drag by the end of it... Yeah, this is Jeff chiming in here, good lord... NOT fun. Tried to be a "sport" about it but I'm not recommending drag shows as a good date night option for ANYBODY! Perhaps a good option if somebody loses a serious bet.

Thursday:

Today I walked to the MET, looked around for 2 minutes, then ran out with a crying baby. Er..I walked home. Then, at night I went to Zumba at the YMCA. It was great! It was the perfect mix between dance and cardio. The teacher told me about his class at on Saturday at the Alvin Ailey American Dance school. I talked about the class and him so much Jeff is suspecting me of cheating! (j/k)

Friday:

Today we trekked to IKEA in Brooklyn. This is where I hiked the equivalent of the pyramids with a stroller and a car seat (with a child in it). Ain't no mountain high enough to keep me from IKEA. We took a water taxi back to the island...That was kinda cool. Jack and I stopped by Jeff's work and got some really cute pictures.
Jeff and I made home made pizza and watched a movie.

Saturday:

I did Zumba at a bonafide dance school. I was cool. I pretended like I was a Daaaaansir ( you know how to say it) I know it was just a dance fitness class for fatties, but for a moment, with the ballet bars and Manhattan skyline, a girl can dream. It turns out they have a ton of classes for "the general public." I would like to do a couple more. Then we strolled in Central Park. In the evening we went on a guided walking tour of Greenwich village. We met a couple from here on the tour and they have a baby the same age as Jack. Susie invited me to a mom's group and gave me her card. How cool! The tour was very interesting. We ended up leaving a little early cuz Jack needed to eat. Jeff did his best Arnold S. impersonation and said "walking tour over, taxi tour starts NOW!" he. he. Dinner at the PB company again.

Today:

Slow morning of home made egg sanwhiches and coffee. Jeff went shopping solo. Then, I met up with a new friend from AA, Zoe. We had coffee and went to the 4pm meeting. It was really nice. We had Mexican for dinner and now I am finishing what I am proud to say is my second blog post in two weeks. Yippie.

New York City 1

Hello everyone!

The Snider Family has officially been in NY one week tomorrow. Jack is now three months old. The flight here was pretty good, Jack mostly slept the whole time. Jeff is working at the office for TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) from 10am to 6pm. We will be here until October 12th. It is really good to be here with Jeff. It really takes the sting out of the Fall tour, since he doesn't come back to Nashville until January 5th. Jack and I will be very experienced travelers once this tour is over.
Jack had a hard time here the first couple days. I think he was adjusting to the new enviornment.

Some highlights so far:

1. GREAT indian restaurant 1/2 block away "Basera"....Oh My...so, so Yummy (For all who may be wondering, Yes, I am still doing weight watchers...I ate 57 points on Friday)---my limit is 29 Ekk!!!

2. World plaza sitting area with trees and public seating is also 1/2 block away. Jack and I hung out there on Thursday and listened to the free jazz band. Jack likes Jazz music.

3. Central Park 1/2 mile away. Jack and I went there twice this week and just hung out. ( I breast fed him laying down in the park..he.he.)

4. Kane Family Visit this weekend...Mom, Dad and Billy were here. It was great having them because Jeff was gone doing Kenny, and it was just great having them here! We went shopping and also went to Queens for a BBQ at my uncle's girlfriends house. Jack and I went to the doctor on Friday because he had a low-grade fever. I turns out he is teething! He is a little ahead of schedule.

5. I GOT AN IPHONE! My life is forever changed. That is all I will say about that...I guess people get annoyed when people go on and on and on about how much they love there phone.

6. I took Zumba at the YMCA here in NY. The bad thing is that they don't have childcare. Boo! The class was good though, it was half filled with very Gay men...

7. There is an awesome AA club house just 4 blocks away. I went to a couple of mtgs so far and plan to go to more there.

That is my update for now. Please keep us in your prayers and thoughts. I feel like God is really going to use this time for our family to really have some good time/memories together. Thank you to everyone who is praying for us. I can really feel it. We have had a great experience working together as a team since we have been here.
I am trying to get some structure on my days, I want to try and do one cool thing each day. Museum, store, or just walk in the park. If anyone reading this has been to NY and has a suggestion for me..(jack and mom friendly) please comment. I start my introduction to Philosophy class online tomorrow, I am looking forward to it! ( i am also a little bit nervous) Thinking about thinking...I already think too much.
Ok..love ya'll
Melissa

The first week has been such a whorl-wind experience for us! We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. I mean, people tell you; and you feel like you have some idea, but actually it is CRAZY. The first night home Jeff and I were just running around like chickens with our heads cut off.

Jeff had a bit of a cold at the hospital and he kept saying that when he got home he was going to just "drink a cup of tea". HA! He couldn't even do that. I think he counted 3 or 4 cups of tea that went cold before he could get to them.

The baby was screaming bloody murder the whole first night. I had already gone 2 days straight without sleep (hospitals-Yulk) and this was my third. You start feeling all twilight zoneish at that point. Not to mention the hormones. If I even looked at Jacks circumcised penis..I would cry from guilt of {putting my child through that} Needless to say we were running on empty.

Turns out Jack wasn't eating well. The whole breast feeding thing really didn't come as "natural" as we thought it would. He had trouble latching on and wasn't getting ANY food. Ek! Poor guy was just hungry. We immediately called and made an appointment with a lactation consultant for the very next day and had to supplement formula with an eye dropper thorough the night.

It really felt like we were running a marathon. Between the breast pump, feeding with a syringe and catheter tube, Jack raging at the breast, sterilizing the pump stuff, constipation, stitches and over all complete body pain and sleep deprivation, {we needed fooood}!!!

The next morning I made the S.O.S. call to my friends from my bible study and community group from church---and let me tell you they came through for us like gang busters! Within an hour or two we had a huge sack of delicious bread & company food sitting on our front porch.(thanks Amy!) For the past week people have been coming over and bringing us meals and their company and I can truly feel their prayers for Jeff, Jack and I. I almost cry just thinking about it. I feel so grateful for all the love and support we have gotten from our friends and family, It amazes me... I especially have appreciated all the other moms who have been my "phone a friend" consultants in this time of intense uncertainty and newness with motherhood.

Each day is getting a little bit easier and now that my body is starting to heal, I'm feeling a bit better. My world has gotten soooo small! I hadn't left this house for 5 days when I left the house to get a nipple shield. I thought to myself {there is a real world out here, I forgot!} It felt so good just driving a car. Then I got home and realized that I may have overdone it. awh.

It was truly an answered prayer that Jeff was able to be home when Jack was born. He couldn't have come at a better time. Jeff had 10 days off from work and Jack came on day one of that run. Praise God! I could have never done it without him! Also, it has been a great bonding experience for us. All modesty has gone out the window and we have to be a team. Our saving grace has been Jeff's sense of humor and general calmness. I can get worked up easily and make a mountain out of a mole-hill in my own mind pretty quick. Just when I need it, Jeff will break into some song where he enters his own lyrics that mock our troubles, or say a funny one-liner. He makes me laugh.

I believe we left off sometime in November...

And so the Sniderweb is once again relaunched in celebration of our new addition! Our beautiful baby Jack Louden Snider was born into the world on Tuesday May 19th. What an amazing experience... He weighed in at 7lbs 3oz and measured out at a towering 19 inches. Melissa did a fantastic job throughout the delivery and is recovering well. We're both slowly but surly figuring out all the in's and out's of basic baby life support: feeding, burping, changing dippers, ect... Here are a couple pics of the newest Snider in the Sinderweb.

November 5th

Yeay! Marie you did it. I am so proud of you for commenting. Lets see...today I had the pleasure of working with third graders in the morning and it was GREAT. I just love kids so much. It has really got the wheels turning in my mind about education. I mean you really can't get a better job for raising kids and I really do like teaching. Maybe the change I needed wasn't a whole new career(Nursing) maybe just a change of grade level.???? I hate to be haste full in decision making, I am enrolled in two classes currently. Well, maybe I needed to explore other options to really know what I am made for. I feel like God planted me in this { D...A..T...A...E..N..T..R...Y...} position for a reason. {It's leading to my true calling!} Ok. That is dramatic, but ya'll know me.

Well, on Saturday I woke up to water leaking from the ceiling in my bedroom. That's right, my BRAND NEW, state of the art, pimp bedroom. I was shocked! How could we have a leak with all brand new pipes? I instantly called Jeff and he called the contractor, who called the plumber, who came over today. I came home to this picture. I guess that I am glad they are fixing it right away. What a bummer.

Also, I feel TOTALLY fatty mcgee! I am not sure if you are should be showing by 12 weeks, but I am proudly displaying that bigmac from yesterday...uh..yulk. I think I am expanding.

For all of you writers and spelling geniuses out there.. This is not a professional blog. I don't spell well. ( I am sure you have noticed) Jeff points out to me all my typing errors and spelling errors. Please overlook them and just see my message. I am really a much better talker than writer, but I do enjoy keeping my friends and family in the know and I don't really want to pay that much attention. Beef stew...I made this last night and my parents came over to keep me company. Yummy.

2. I am working on a stocking for Jeff. My mom made me a stuffed felt stocking when I was a little girl and I always remembered it being so fun and visually stimulating. My mom is making one and so am I. It is very tedious, but relaxing at the same time. The more I do it, the more I want to. Jeff wants it to be a surprise, but I really want to show my mother-in-law, so..I am just giving a sneak peak of one small leaf.

3. I am pregnant! Most of you who read this know already, but this picture of me is week 12.

4. I don't work when the kids don't go, so I didn't work today. I spent my morning at the department of human services trying to get health care for this pregnancy. I don't have much tolerance for paper work, faxing things, bringing in bank statements, ect. I am not a good "bookkeeper" for my life. I got there at 5:30 am and the line was 40ish people deep. I got in at 8:30 so which was pretty good. I think it is all going to fine, I just had a mini-melt down today. I know I am an emotional person, but hormones AND my {emotionalism}--Watch out! Just ask Jeff. My friend Holly always says.."Where not 'emotional' , that sound so derogatory. We are passionate". I think I like that better. he.he. Today I also voted. I went with my friend Audra and her daughter amelia. She talked me down from the cliff. Confession: Then we ate big macs. Ek! So bad....but soooooo Good.

5. A snap shot of Dora...for jeff. Oh, we also decided to get the american indian dog in January.

November 2

It has been a long time.. I know. Let's see.

1. We are in the house. It has been a process, but the place looks great! I can't wait until Jeff is here to share it with me.

2. I am not longer unemployed. I am working a a permanent-sub. It is a total oxymoron. You see, my old boss (principal) is now the executive director of the gifted and talented program for Metro schools. The program is called ENCORE. She called me up and offered me this position. There are 28ish ENCORE teachers. They travel to all the different schools. If any of these teachers are out, then I am the sub. The kids will know me, and I sit in on some of the planning meetings, ect. The idea is to not have a total stranger every time someone is out. Now, if no one is gone, I work in the main office as a "secretary assistant". Ms. Vanessa is the secretary and is incredible! The job is a little tedious when I am in the office, I mostly do (now, use your best robot voice) D..A...T...A..........E....N....T.....R.......Y. Yulk. The days drag a bit and I really look forward to the subbing days. I try to be grateful to have steady, non-stess work during these tough economic times. Jeff keeps reminding me that it is temporary, more exciting and stimulating employment is in my future. One of the benefits of the job is that it helps my mental state BIG TIME to have the structure of a work schedule.

3. Thorn in my side: So, after the Jerry springer drama of the bob senior clan and acquiring this house, I thought that I would get a break from crazy for a while. Well, I was wrong. We have just one more neighbor that needs to be expunged from the street. Ronnie and Mary live across the way. They have 3 kids. I have always been a little weary of these neighbors. When we first moved in to 507 (we now live at 509), every time we pulled up to the house ronnie would come out to talk to us. I think everyone has probably experienced on of those 90/10 conversations..you know: You talk 10 percent of the time and he talks 90. Then you cant even pull away if you try. Ek! We started parking in the back and simply trying to avoid them completely. Here is the info we have acquired from them in the 2 years we have lived on morton avenue. Neither of them have a job. They used to live in 507 (our old place) and got evicted for living to total filth. They now live with ronnie's father who has Alzheimer's. Ronnies uncle and his lover live next door. There kids are totally filthy with sagging diapers and scratches and scabs all over there skin. It is just really sad. You can hear them yelling at the kids.

They have asked the other neighbors for money before and ronnie is the street gossip. He is always looking out his window. He would say things to me like "I saw you come home at 3 last night, what where you doing out so late?" Creepy. Boo Goo said she saw him peering in her windows once. Eww.

All this to say, I started feeling convicted for cutting them off. I started asking the question "what would Jesus do?" For real, Jesus would probably talk with them and help them. I thought maybe we could be a good influence on them. I started conversing more and even invited them in. I even helped Mary create a resume and apply for some jobs on my computer.

I thought is was going good. It started getting out of control. I gave and inch and they took a mile! Now every time I pull up, all three kids are all over me like flies on crap. I don't even want to come home just so I don't have to face them. Then Ronnie asked me for money. I said no. But I offered to him that if he wanted to move the furniture from our old attic to our new attic, I would pay him sixty dollars. Well, a week later I went to look for Jeff's drill. It was gone. Along with all the rest of Jeff's power tools. You see, i moved all Jeff's tools into the attic myself. Ronnie and I are the only one's who would know they were there. He totally stole our tools. Then i went to find a vacuum that i was selling on craigslist and it was gone. Then ,we had three buckets of change that we were saving and they were empty. Can you believe this? I was trying to help him out and he stole from us. I was so mad. I stormed over to his house and when he opened the door, I almost passed out from the strong pungent smell of urine. He adamantly denied it was him.."I couldn't do that to you guys" blah blah. Errr....

3. Jeff sent me the most beautiful flowers. I loved them. I was so sad that they had to die. Boo.

I cant wait till he gets home. I am going to see him on November 10 and 11th. I am really excited for that. He is working really hard for us. I am proud of him and miss him alot. It gets lonely in a big house by yourself.

Well, there is more but I will start with this. I will try to post more often.

Photos and...Help?

Sorry to you all who have to view this montage of photos. Wow! We made it. This first year of marriage was really tough on Jeff and I. We got married, then Jeff left town for 4 months the very next week. Also, I think we both came into the marriage with certain expectations about what marriage would be like....and were totally wrong. We have seen the best sides of each other and now the side not many see. When just dating someone, or having relationships with the rest of the world for that matter, we were both able to present the side of ourselves that we wanted the other person to see. The "representative" if you will. When married the un-kept side is revealed! A good analogy would be like wearing a really tight belt that held all your fat in and everyone thought you were really thin, then one day taking the belt off and letting it all hang loose. Totally exposed. It is rough. I have learned about that side of Jeff and he has learned about that side of me. {oh no!} And, when just dating and things get sticky...You just break up! Well, jeff and I both made a promise to God and to each other that we will be in this for the long run. This is totally new territory. I have never been in this place with any other human being I have come to have a relationship thus far in my life. What a task!
I have never been stretched this far to learn how to love unconditionally (as God loves us) and be committed to a higher calling than just my own flighty self-will. I truly believe God made marriage to refine me and step-up my spiritual life. I fail terribly at it ALOT. I am still new. But I have learned a lot this year. God is our sole source for contentment. We are BOTH wrong. Marriage is a tool of refinement. Refinement defined as "the process of removing impurities or unwanted elements from a substance. The improvement or clarification of something by making small changes ." Outside of marriage I would never have to face these things in myself.

Although we have the stresses of fiances, careers, and our major personality differences, we are glad to have each other to go through it together.

WE MADE IT! yippie! I am so looking forward to the years to come! From what people tell me,The first year is the hardest. Not only was it the first year, we had "road-life" and the stress of a new house on our plates. So I am really grateful to God for granting us grace and carrying us throughout the first year. The glory goes to him~I could never had done it.

For Jeff

<img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; I officially finished my chemistry class. Yippee, I got an A! Do-do-do, Do-do! That is me tooting my own horn. I am so excited. It was a really hard class. Thanks to God, to my study group (Fernando and Yolanda mostly), and to Jeff, without all of them I wouldn't have done so well. Jeff helped me with my paper. I am really good at studying and doing practice problems but I am not very good at writing. So, I had Jeff proof read what I had done. Jeff says that the introduction and conclusion are the two most important parts of any paper. He sat at the computer with me and VERY slowly went through every sentence of the introduction and conclusion making them spectacular. (all of you who know Jeff well can picture this) I tried to follow his lead with the body of the paper. I got my paper back and I got a really good grade! The funny part was what my teacher wrote as her comment. "good job--on the summary and conclusion" he.he. Jeff was so proud.

Jeff and I had a rare chance to spend some quality time together yesterday. We went canoeing. It was a great day for it. It was not too hot and not that many people where on the water. It was a nice peaceful afternoon and jeff patteled me all the way to the finish. Jeff doesn't have that many more days before NY. Boo.

I am currently a total bum! I lost my job and my summer-school class is now done. I feel totally useless! I would get a job, but I plan to go on vacation to st. John with Jeff (care of Kenny) in the beginning of September for a week and from there I will fly to NY to stay with him there until middle of October. So, I feel like waiting until I get back would be the best bet. For now, I think they need to make a new show "Desperate housewives of woodbine." I lay in bed and eat raisins. Then I get up and think about cleaning something and then I take another nap. Then i eat some trisckets. Then I feel bad for sleeping. Then I put on make-up to not feel like a total bum. Then I watch TV, then back to bed. Ok. I am making it sound worse that it is. That was only one day and I have been sick. But really, I prefer being busy.

The house is coming along. I am getting so anxious for it to be done. Ekk!

Also, I am doing BootCamp at the YMCA. This is an exercise class that is meant to totally kick your butt and blast you into the next higher fitness level. It is is 4 weeks long and Monday through Friday 5:45-7:00am. It is REEEAAALLLY hard. I am so proud of myself though. This is week 2 and I only missed one day(today) cuz my knees was hurting and I am trying to get over this cold.

I start A&P and Lifespan development on the 25th and they are both web classes. So, that is on my horizon. I am grateful for online classes because I can go to my bible study my AA meetings and get up and go with Jeff to NY! Also, I am a little nervous about the "online" part, I so love being with people and having {study groups}. Pictures below are: Summer Chemistry Peeps, Canoeing, and More house pics.

Here you go Jeff.

<img style="display:block; I know. I know. Well here I am with an update. For all of you who don't know: early Saturday morning my brother billy got into a horrible four-wheeler accident. He was visiting a friend in Maryland. We got the call that he was in the ICU and had a brain injury. My parents flew immediately there and I waited for Cat scan results. When we found he had bleeding in his brain, I flew up.
I spent 5 days in Baltimore at the university of Maryland shock trauma unit. It was really hard to see him. He was really fighting and struggling when they would bring him up from the sedation. He was terrified and totally confused and scared. They told us that he wouldn't remember any of the first few days and that made me feel a little better. The whole thing is a blur and a roller coaster of emotion. We didn't know if he was going to live on the first day and then we were worried about permanent brain damage. It was a waiting game to see how much his head would swell or not. I called everyone I could think of to PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for Billy's life to be saved.
He had a tubes everywhere and a breathing tube down his throat. Well I am so gratefull to say that all of your prayers have been answered. He didnt swell much at all and didn't have to have any invasive procedures done to his head and when they took out the tube from his throat he was talking. His first words(after the swear words) were "I survived!" He wasn't really yet with it and his voice was all scratchy from the tubes. It was like his subconscience knew that there was a battle going on for his soul. It gave me chills! (and tears..if you know me at all)

I cant forget to tell you all about the "angel with feet" who came to comfort my mom and I. My friend Heather called her friend in Baltimore and she came and brought my Mom and I the mosto thoughtfull basket of things. She had prayers written on index cards, pamphlets on "how to pray in troubled times" and "praying when you feel spiritually empty" and cookies and two journals for my mom and I to write down our thoughts, a new testament and bath products...I could go on.. I feel like God was really taking care of us during this time. Thank you Joann!! I will never forget that.
He is now in a rehabilatation hospital and the doctors say that he will be the same Bill we always knew within 6months to a year from now. He is still a little confused but I am so gratefull to God and to everyone who prayed for him and for my family. Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you.
God really did grant us grace and mercy during this time. We hope that Bill will be home by monday!!
I will write more later I promise!

Next Big Thing

Jeff and I joke alot about "N.B.T." which stands for "the Next Big thing." We both have similar personalities in this way; we get really excited about something and then after a certain amount of time (which varies according to how excited we are) we fizz out. The followthorugh on ideas is not owr stong suit. Some of my examples include: Mary Kay lady....(didn't happen)...Personal stylist...(even got business cards, how embarrasing)..Runner girl....(that's a whole nother story)....Ballroom dancer..(would have had to sell an organ to afford keeping THAT up)...I wont list any of Jeff's. It is his business to disclose his. (he.he.) I know that there are others on my list, just can't think of them right now. I used to really get on myself about this, but I have come to a place where I think it is kinda cute. I like the fact that I get excited about things. If something sticks..then great! If not, so what!?

All of this to say....I am becoming Vegetarian! I took Nutrition class this spring and learned alot about the affect of meat. Vegetarianism is also in the air at the school I work at. A student gave me a book called "Skinny Bitch," It is all about Veganism. Then I watched the Video "Meet your Meat." I kind of wish I wouldn't have read that book or watched that video. {Ignorance is bliss, right?} It totally opened my eyes, and in one day I wanted to become a Vegan. Then I decided that Veganism would just be too hard.(No dairy) I have done a few things, like switch to soy milk and yogurt and try to cut down on the chesse. I just can' t totally give up dairy. (at least not untill I become an amazing Vegan chef) It just limits so much of what you can eat. I even did my final paper for Nutriton on the harmfull effects of dairy.

So, I am in the process of checking out different Vegan and Vegetarian food products. Some are really good! The Vegan hot dogs on the other hand....GROSS! I tried to grill them and look what happened. It looks like some kind of venerial disease. I am not discouraged though...I will keep searching, because I haven't yet given up on this "N.B.T."

http://www.notmilk.com/
If you dare....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIjanhKqVC4

Doesnt this look JUST like Jeff? On Monday, they started getting worse. He had no appetite and his mother was suspicious of appendicitis. Jeff dosen't have insurance so we were worried. That afternoon he decided to go to a walk-in to just make sure he was okay. (This timing also made us nervous as Jeff was to start his new job on the Kenney tour on Tuesday)

Jeff called the walk-in and explained his symptoms and they told him to go to the Emergency Room. Here is the time line of events:

5:30 Arrive at the hospital

7:45 See the doctor. Jeff explains that he doesn't have insurance and he refuses an cat scan and asks if there is another way to rule out appendicitis. Dr. ER suggests a blood test to see if his white count is high. If it isn't: he is fine, if it is high: he should get an cat scan for sure.

9;30 Results from blood test show white blood count 13,900. Normal is 10,000. Doctor ER says he is 99% sure it is appenditis and Jeff may have to have surgery.

11;00 The radiologist said it looked like something swollen, it could be his appendix or a "inflaimed small intestine" but that there was liquid in his pelvic area. Men should not have liquid there. He said to clarify..we would need to do another cat scan(free of charge) after Jeff drank contrast fluid to see what else he could tell.

1:30 am We are admitted to the hospital. Dr. ER never came back to tell us what the second cat scan told us. We were upstairs asking the nurse.."Is the doctor going to talk to us?" No answer. No doctor ever came.

6:50 am Doctor Floor came in and said he thought It wasnt appendicitis but we need "his" (jeff's) doctor too look at the Cat Scan to verify. Meanwhile Jeff can have no food because the nurses are assuming he may go into surgery, just waiting for the doctor.

3:00pm Finacial counselor comes to inform us of payment options and tells us our current bill is 5,000 dollars.

7:00pm The doctor comes in and says to Jeff "do you want to go home?" Jeff said"well, yes, but what is wrong with me?" Dr. says "You didn't ask for pain medication all day, so you don't have appendicitis." Jeff says "why is there fluid in my pelvic area?" Doctor says"It could be anything." Then he walks out! Unbelievable!

Jeff went out to the nurse and asked if she would get the doctor back because he still had some questions. She said there was nothing she could do, he was in surgery. So he asked for the patient advocate. That person informed Jeff that she could guarantee that Dr. was in Surgery..scrubbed in. So Jeff left and on his way out...can you believe it...he walked right past the doctor!!

We are really upset about the care we recieved and no one in the hospital was able to tell me the prices of ANYTHING! I read the "patient rights and responsibilities" sheet that came with our paper work and it is our right to know the cost of treatments!

We still dont know what was wrong with Jeff, but we are greatfull that he is feeling much better and out with Kenney and no surgery(yet). Praise God!

"Picking up my Chip"

This past Sunday, Jeff and I were baptized. {Full imersion} As many of you know, We where looking for a church to call home for a while. With Jeff being in and out of Nashville alot and I being a fairly new Christian, we hopped around alot.

The music style is important to Jeff and the bible study classes offered is important to me. Well, it seemed like every church we went to the music style was very contemporary.(like stinkin' backstreet boys) It didn't really bother me too much. After hearing Jeff's side..I guess I agree. I shouldn't be at a "show" or looking at the guy who is singings face on a jumbo-tron. It is supposed to be about worshiping God, not a performace by musicans. When we went to Grace Community Church, it immediatly felt like home. Then, I saw too women from my amazing bible study! I didn't even know they went there. {sign from God}

We went to a new members class and baptism is required for membership. Neither of us have had a believer's baptism. I was baptized as an infant in the catholic church. We both felt ready. This was the time. I understand it to be an act of obidence. Water baptism is one thing for certain that Jesus asks us to do. So, {i took the plunge}

It didn't feel overly emotional to me, (most things are) so I wondered if I was doing it right.

I talked with a woman from my AA meeting about getting baptized and she really helped me to understand better with a metaphor.

You see, in AA we come to the front and pick up "chips" to signify our time in recovery every year. For the first year it is every 3 months. When you pick up your year chips, alot of the time you are expected to "share your story" ie {testimony} and I always got nervous. I didn't want to pick up the chips. My sponsor told me "it's not about YOU!, you pick up the chip to let others know that it works."

Same with baptism, It was an outward expression of what God had already done in me.

Im just glad I don't have to do it every year!

Good-bye Community High School

So,
I found out yesterday that the school I work at is closing it's doors. Blog

Hey all. I had a brunch get together with the ladies from my bible study and they harped me about needing a new blog entry. Well, I feel like not too much is happening. Everyone with kids and newborn babies or babies in their tummies have much more interesting lives...

Anyway, I know that my {best friend} annie garman likes to hear tidbits of normalcy to help us feel closer so lets see...My spice cabinet is a WRECK! I try to get one thing out to cook a recipe and they all fall out! It is so irritating. Jeff says that I over exaggerate everything, like in one of those infomercials where they are trying to sell a special pan to cook pancakes and they show a scene with a woman desperately trying to make pancakes and they are flying out of the pan and her hair is a mess, ect. (it is so obvious that she is trying to make them fall out)Then they show her with the "gadget" and she has make-up on and everything is great:) Well, according to Jeff I am the "before" woman. He does a squeally womans voice and imitates me "they wont stay in!"

That happened today. Hmm..what else;

Jeff and I ran for and hour and a half yesterday in Percy Warner park. It was so great. Annie, I was thinking of you on that run and praying that one day I might take you on that trail. {You would totally want to move to Nashville.}

I am thinking about scrap booking my wedding album. The woman who got on to me about blogging is the very woman who is the scrapbook queen. (second to you annie) You should check out her blog and her favorite blogs..you will be re-inspired!

So our world is really just revolving around school and 509 Morton avenue. Yesterday our friends came over who just had a baby. Jeff and I will have kids sometime, and if you know me at all, I am already thinking about pain tolerance. ek! So, I totally drilled her about the epidural and the NEEDLE! I am so freaked out. {i don't think i can do it!}

Last night we had a dinner party at our house. We were so excited, but a little crazed before hand. It ended up being great. Everyone stayed until 12am! I guess they were having a good time. We made mushroom and cream tar lets for an appetizer, salad with avocado, strawberries, goat cheese and pecans, baked vegetables, and Pork chops on honey polenta with apples and onions. It was great. I also made pineapple upside down cupcakes. Yummie. I made 24 and they were GONE! All in all it was a great night with a lot of good conversation. Oh, I forgot we also had Italian cream sodas. Hmm.

I got this great "cup-cake doctor" book from my friend Audra where you just get a cake mix and add a thing or two and tah-dah..you have a gourmet cup-cake. I also tried the red velvet with chocolate chips with a white chocolate peppermint frosting. Dang! I looked like a total pro, but it was so easy!! Ya'll should really check it out.

509 is really making progress. We finally got the last of the insulation out last night. I hope to never have to deal with that stuff again. I think I have at least one black lung by now.

Jeff and I are really excited about the kenney chesney tour. It is a great opportunity for Jeff and this stinkin' economy is really affecting us. (the money will be nice)

School is going great and I am still loving it. I am planning on taking Chemistry this summer. I am a little nervous about it. I think it might be a bit harder than the classes I am taking now.

Jeff and I haven't given up on the dream of being morning people. We have rare sucess but we won't give up! Today we got up and did our runs before work! Yippie! {the journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step, right?}

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sniderweb.blogspot.com/2008/03/add-blog.html' title='A.D.D. Sorry it has been a while since I blogged. I guess things are pretty normal around the Snider residence. Jeff is working a few days a week with our neighbor and friend in his hand-man business and all his other time he spends in demo-mode at 509. We have almost filled up another dumpster. Our general contracted friend is actually coming over today to give us his opinion on the house since demo started.
Jeff and I also started "date-night" last week. We each want to take turns planning a date for the other person all the time it being a surprise. So, I went first. I took him to Yazoo brewing company(a microbrewery here in Nashville), for a tasting and a cheese and fruit plate. Yum. It was very vibie and cool. Then I had the best thing planned..A wrestling tournament! Jeff loves wrestling, I can hardly pull him away from the TV when UFC is on. He is constantly trying to wrestle ME! I just go limp and refuse to participate so he ends up just "putting" me in the move. I knew he would love it! Well, we had like 4 inches of snow last Friday and it got cancelled. Er..
We ended up going to 10,000 b.c. (wait for video please) and walking around at Home depot expo center.
I had a break from my college classes last week because of spring break and I have spring break for my regular job next week. Er..They didn't happen at the same time so,Unfortunately I didn't get to go anywhere. Boo. But I still love school. Nutrition is turning out to be a bit harder that I thought. During the class it seems so easy. Don't get me wrong I definitely study but I got a 80 and83 on the first two tests! {oh, no!} I need to get over a 93 on all the rest of the test to end up with an A. {oh,no!} I am going to have to double my efforts. Any who. That is an update for now.

AID

Well, Some of you might know that Jeff has been "strenuously searching" for the perfect dog. Well he found it. American Indian Dog. He talks all the time about it. He says {We need AID!} all the time. We got the number of some AID owners in our area from the breeder and met up with a family who was picking up their second AID at the airport. Thought you might want to see a picture of what our future dog-that we don't have yet-that jeff already loves-looks like.
We would love to hear name ideas. I want something that rimes with dora. Also, we thought Logan might be nice.

More of 509 Morton

We are still completing the demo on the house next door. One of the parts of marraige that is a struggle for us is that marraige seems to be very isolating. We love each other and spend most of our time together. As we compare our single lives to the present day, all of our great friends that we used to hang out with regularly have wives or husbands and kids! Not that those things aren't awsome, it's just that we tend to isolate within our small family units and Jeff and I are grieving the comradary of friendship outside of your significant other. Is it an inevitability that you must loose intimacy in friendships as you grow in intimacy with your wife? When I was in Highschool I hung out with a group of a least 4 girls most week-ends. Sleepovers, movies, and eating-out. In college, I had my room-mate and her friends and we had people over for get-togethers. Before marraige I had spontaneous game-nights and week-end camping trips. Now, if Jeff and I want to hang out with a "couple" we need to check our schedules. One friend was "penciled in" for a get to gether 3 weeks out! Then to top it off, they couldn't make it because they caught the flu. I dont think people are meant to live like this. Seriously, I want communal living!!

Sweat Equity

Hey.Hey.
It's been a while since I blogged. I guess I haven't really deemed anything {blog worthy}. Well, some new things in sniderland are that Jeff has bought a new truck. It is the smallest truck in the world. No, seriously. He said that when he went to work, he parked it in front of another guys truck and the top of his cab wasn't even as tall as the other guys hood. I love it. We decided to sell Jeff's mountaineer and opt for a cheap junker cuz we have some serious financial goals we want to meet. Like Dave ramsey says "live like no one else, so later you can live like NO ONE else!"
Also, yesterday we started "demo" on 509 Morton avenue. It wasnt "true demo" because the people who lived there before us left tons of junk and crap. We spent three hours loading up the dumpster with rotten clothes, fermenting dog poop, broken VHS tapes, christmas decorations, furniature, and one dead mouse that was sitting in a bowl of water. He was transparent because he was marinating for so long. Yulk! I can't believe that people could live like that. I think they must have just given up on life. It really is kind of sad.
We are really excited about starting the work on that house. We have decided to move forward with total remodel and moving in there when it is finished. We plan to sell the house we live in now when the work is done.
School is going great still. I absolutley love it. I had some ladies from my class over for a study session on sunday. I felt so encouraged because they didn't really understand some of the concepts and after our group they did! I love teaching! The time flew.
Running is still happening just not as consistent in the past week. I did run 6 miles on Saturday but I didn't do my long run on sunday and did nothing on monday. Ek! I think I will run today. It is really hard to stay motivated.

Trip to Wisconsin

Jeff and I just got back from Wisconsin. We had a "reception" for all the people who were not able to make it to Tennessee for our wedding. It was pretty fun considering I knew about 25 percent of the people there. The really fun people to see were our old neighbors Phil and Linda and thier kids Melanie and Jenna who I used to baby-sit. Also, my best friends parents where there. It was like a flash-back, big-time!

We also did christmas with the sniders. The week was full of game playing, sweet-treat eating and football watching. Jeff's grandmothers full-time job is baking. She is diabetic and can not eat the stuff but she loves making it. I think that is so ironic, so we all eat it. I think I need to fast from sugar after that trip. ek!

We had a superbowl party aswell. Jerry, Marie, Jeff and Melissa. Marie made taco dip and little weenies, we were READY. Well, second quarter everyone was asleep except Jerry. We thought that was so funny. {what a great superbowl party} What is happening to us? We felt so old. The days of staying up to the wee hours is a faint memory.

Jeff and I did manage to do some running while we were there. I felt so proud of us. Februrary is the hardest month to stay dedicated. The weather wasn't really too bad and we were able to get all our runs in. (I did have one grouchy day when I DID NOT want to do it, but I did.)
Everything about our Wisconsin trip was great, getting home>>>>different story.

We left Lacrosse at 11 am on Monday. It was snowing pretty hard. Then through Chicago, the fog was REALLY bad. You couldn't see 10 feet in front of you. We drove 35 miles an hour. It was very dangerous. Then, at 11:30pm the cars stopped moving. There was a huge accident. We sat untill 2:00am not moving an Inch. It was awfull. Then once we got moving, a stinkin' sunami storm set in. Finally, we just stopped and got a cheap hotel room. We ended up getting home Tuesday at noon.
I am really glad to be back.

A Little Paint goes a long way

Here are the before and after pictures of our house from when I painted. "Music City Marathon" I started my {relationship} with running about two years ago. I was convinced that I would never be fit like that. I mean, I used to smoke ALOT and eat horrible foods. But two years ago I went to the YMCA around January and decided to start "working out." I couldn't even run for 1 whole minute on the treadmill. Ek! After running my one minute I went to sit in the sauna and I was reading "Health" magazine or something like that. They had an article that was about setting reachable goals. One of the examples they gave was to try and run a mile without stopping. That was IT! I spent about a month trying to reach that goal and I did. The next thing I knew I was running a half-marathon in September.
I am going for it again. It is almost harder this time because I have a previous success to look back on and compare how awfull I am right now. Every step last year was one that I had NEVER done. This year it is psycologically harder. You know what I mean?
Anyway, saturday I was going to do my "time-trial", this is when you run 2 miles as hard as you can (all out) too see what your max heart rate is so you can set up appropriate training. This is harder than the stinkin' marathon in my opinion. I was going to do it at the "Zoo run" that they have here in Nashville so that the energy of the crowd could carry me through the hell I was going to enter into. It cost 38 bucks! So, jeff and I decided I would just do it at the park.
Jeff paced me through it and let me tell you...People at the park probably thought he was tourchering me. te.he. I was breathing so hard and so loud I was even crying. (I am so dramatic)
I was so happy that it is over.
No where to go but up :)

509 Morton Avenue

I wanted to showcase some "before" pictures of 509 Morton Ave. so that all of you who know our drama with that house could see what we got ourselves into. For those of you who don't know, I will re-cap it.
We moved in at 507 morton and met our very interesting neighbors. Bobby, Bobby Jr., BooGoo and Little Bob. Yes, these are there real names. They are the most red-neck people, but the sweetest too, bless their hearts. They pretty much ran a drug house over there. I was a little scared of the people I saw coming in and out of that house. I thought that I would at least try to befriend them a little, as to not be on there bad side. I learned a lot about the family.

Bobby Sr. wife and daughter died 3 years ago. Wife of cancer, daughter of a drug overdose.

The kids of the dead daughters Dad is in prison and the uncle who is 21 is taking care of them.

Those kids grandmother is a drug addict.

Boo Goo was pregnant when we met her, but now she is in jail for attempted murder of the baby-daddy after he became paralyzed from a staff infection.

Bobby got into a car accident recently and his face came "off" he told me that he saw that movie "Face-off" and didn't believe that could really happen. He told me "That shit is real." He came to my door and I didn't even recognize him.

Anyway, This family has bad luck after bad luck. They owned the home outright, but got a second mortgage on it a few years ago. Well, they used that money to bail bobby Sr. out of jail and never fixed up the house. They were 4 months late on the payments. Bottom line foreclosure was well on it's way. Bobby approached me about selling his place.

He offered a pretty low price and we wanted to buy. We tried to get a mortgage on the place, but with much struggle, the bank would not lend us(or anybody) money for a home that was in such bad shape. We offered them what was in our savings account(much, much less than the sales price), and they took it.

Now, we don't know if we should level it, rent it, or sell it. We are just sitting on it for now until we get advice from some of Jeff's friends who are in this business.

Packer Game

What a sad day it was yesterday. Jeff doesn't think that I can. So, the clock on our stove in the kitchen never read very clearly. I always thought that I was old and the lights were old or it was all scratched up. Well, I was cleaning the stove last night and looked a bit closer to investigate and to my SHOCK and HORROR it was cockroach carcasses that were blocking the lights!
I had heard stories about how gross the people who lived here before us were. I guess the place was near condemed and they had to shovel the cockroaches up with a shovel. Nasty. I just have to wonder what kind of people could live like that and how the cockroaches could have gotten inside the clock of our stove.

Melissa The Teacher

Last night was my first night back to school. IT WAS AWSOME! I loved every minute of that six to nine class. Statistics. The name was a little intimidating at first, but it was really fun. There were a couple other girls in the class that want to become nurses also. I was on the edge of my seat. Even better, when I got home Jeff had prepared me a wonderfull dinner of stirfry and potatoes and rolls. Yummy. I was so excited and maybe a little over zealous about class that when a student asked a question, I answered him. ek! Jeff was totally making fun of me. He was impersonating me pushing the teacher aside and taking over the class. We had a couple of good laughs. Next week I will bite my tounge. My homework is to make a frequency distribution table from a raw data set...YES! I cant wait to devour it.

Will I keep up with This?

So, It seems that everyone nowadays is blogging.
